Low Carb at Wendy's
Atkins is so 10 years ago, and as such, not every restaurant has a low-carb menu these days... in fact, I can't count them on more than one hand. However, a low-carbohydrate diet is still effective and maintainable, and a great way to stay fit or lose weight. Even though it's mostly off the menus, it's still convenient and available if you're slightly creative.
Today I had Wendy's for lunch. My meal amounted to 10 net grams of carbohydrate and it cost under $5. It was satisfying for an adult male with an above-average appetite. Here's what I ordered:
A thought on "Cash for Clunkers"
I would prefer my government to regard me as a "citizen" rather than a "consumer," and as such, I'm unimpressed with their handing our collective tax dollars to those who've made the most irresponsible vehicle purchases, to entice them into buying products from some of our country's least wise monolithic corporate entities.
PhreakNIC 9 Car Computing Presentation
I built my first Car PC in 2001. A set-top PC, a game-pad, a tweaked Windows install, and some WinAMP plugins provided me with a much more capable MP3 player than anything on the market at the time. I continued to enhance this machine until retiring it in 2009 after the video-out failed, and my cell phone was able to provide similar functionality.
I built my second car PC for the DeLorean, using all the software and hardware capabilities that came about since my first car PC. I presented this platform at PhreakNIC 9. My presentation downloadable here.
New Website!
I decided it was time for a major site relaunch. This site uses the open source Joomla Content Management System, so stay tuned for much more frequent updates!
Aquarium Coffee Table
After getting into the aquarium hobby, I soon began seriously considering something I wanted since I was a kid reading the Sears catalog: an aquarium coffee table. Searching about various retailers and ebay, I found the prices to start around $400 US and upwards, prior to shipping of around $100.
Memphis Aquaria
When I entered the aquarium hobby, I found that Memphis area's Aquarium Society had disbanded several years prior. I also found posts scattered on general aquarist forums from people in Memphis interested in meeting / communicating. Thus was born MemphisAquaria.org.
Install a multi-function rear-view mirror
I added a multi-function rear-view mirror to my DeLorean. This added automatic, electrochromatic dimming, a digital compass, an outside temperature display, and Homelink (garage door / gate remote) buttons, all with a single upgrade to a part that was already broken in my vehicle. I've been very pleased with the results. While I installed this, I documented the procedure and took photos. Although my instructions are specific to the DeLorean, my instructions may be useful to anyone considering such a project.
